Big Joe Louis is UK blues royalty on the roots and trad side. Kingston, Jamaica-born, London-based since the seventies, he's twice British Blues Award Best Male Vocalist (1993, 1994) and a recurring nominee for best guitarist and band through the nineties. His band The Blues Kings was formed 1989 - labels Blue Horizon and Ace, Mike Vernon-produced. He's recorded with Van Morrison and Jools Holland, backed visiting American blues greats including David 'Honeyboy' Edwards, Carey Bell, Lazy Lester and Mud Morganfield. The sound is Delta-derived juke-joint blues and R&B, sung and played without concession. Current trio with Lewis Fielding and Peter Greatorex tours Europe, Scandinavia and beyond.
The "Sofa Sessions" turn The Lion's Den café into a very special intimate space. Gather round outstanding artists as they play squeezed onto the sofas, no stage between you and the music. The constraint shapes everything - lighter amplification, closer listening, room to swing from quiet to raucous. Up to five players. One Midhurst venue, no barrier.
