The Brit Funk Association is a ten-piece collective formed by the pioneers of the Brit-Funk sound, bringing together members of Beggar & Co, Central Line and Hi-Tension with ex-members of Light of the World and Incognito. This isn't a tribute act. These are the people who made the music in the first place. Brit-Funk was Britain's own answer to American soul and jazz-funk - a style born in late-1970s southern England that mixed jazz, funk, soul, dance rhythms and pop hooks, with Hi-Tension and Light of the World among its founding pioneers. It put black and white British musicians on stage together at a time when that still mattered, and it produced some genuine chart smashes. "British Hustle" by Hi-Tension reached number 8 in 1978, and the movement went on to shape everyone from Spandau Ballet to Level 42. Live, the band delivers the whole golden era in one set. Expect "Time", "I'm So Happy" and "I Shot the Sheriff" from Light of the World, "Somebody (Help Me Out)" and "Mule (Chant No. 2)" from Beggar & Co, and "Hi-Tension" and "British Hustle" themselves, all driven by a full horn section and a rhythm section that simply doesn't let up. They've played sell-out club shows across the UK and stellar sets at festivals here and across Europe. Ten players, a wall of brass, and a back catalogue of real hits made by the people who wrote them. This is the set that gets the entire room on its feet and keeps it there.
